Airport transfer, Grab, taxi or bus
Hoi An has no airport or train station of its own: almost everyone arrives through Da Nang, about 30 km to the north. The drive takes 40 to 50 minutes. Here are the options from the airport, the train station and central Da Nang, with honest pros and cons.
| Option | Time | Typical price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked private transfer | 40–50 min | From about $7 on GetYourGuide | Night arrivals, families, luggage |
| Grab car (app) | 40–50 min | Roughly 350,000–450,000 VND | Daytime arrivals with mobile data |
| Metered taxi | 40–50 min | Similar to Grab or a little more | No app, no booking |
| Local bus | 60–90 min | Well under $2 | Tight budgets, light luggage, central Da Nang only |
Rough prices seen in November 2026 for one car or one adult; Grab prices rise at night and in heavy rain.
A pre-booked transfer means a driver waiting in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign, a fixed price agreed in advance and a car sized for your group and bags. It is the stress-free choice after a long flight, for late-night arrivals and for families with car seats to think about. The most-booked transfer on GetYourGuide has more than 1,200 reviews and works in both directions: book the return trip to the airport at the same time.
Grab is Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing app and works well in Da Nang: the price is shown before you book, so there is no haggling. Pickups at the airport are from a marked area outside arrivals. You need mobile data (buy an eSIM or a local SIM at the airport) and, ideally, your hotel’s address written in Vietnamese.
Metered taxis from the official rank are a fine fallback. Stick to the well-known companies, make sure the meter is running and agree on the destination before you set off.
Local buses connect central Da Nang with Hoi An’s bus station, a short walk or taxi ride from the Old Town. They are very cheap but slow, they do not serve the airport, and routes and numbers have changed several times in recent years. Ask your hotel which line currently runs, and allow up to an hour and a half.
The Marble Mountains sit right on the coast road, about 12 km before Hoi An. If you arrive in the morning, a half-day tour of the caves, pagodas and the Lady Buddha with Da Nang pickup can be a better use of the day than sitting in the hotel waiting for check-in. Coming from Hue instead? A private car over the Hai Van Pass with stops turns a travel day into one of the best drives in Vietnam.
Coming by train? The nearest station is Da Nang. From there the same options apply: transfer, Grab or taxi, about 45 minutes to Hoi An.
A fixed-price private transfer, a sightseeing transfer from Hue and the Marble Mountains, right on the road between Da Nang and Hoi An.

A private car or van with a driver who meets you at Da Nang airport, the train station or your hotel and drops you at your door in Hoi An, or the other way round. Fixed price, no haggling and no waiting for a Grab at midnight.

Roughly 350,000 to 450,000 VND for a standard car at the time of writing; more at night, in rain and for larger cars.
Not a regular public one. Local buses run from central Da Nang, so from the airport a transfer, Grab or taxi is far easier.
No. The nearest airport is Da Nang International (DAD); Chu Lai airport to the south has far fewer flights.
